The Wyndham Championship field took another hit Thursday night. Pierceson Coody withdrew from the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale, becoming the ninth player to exit this week’s event at Sedgefield Country Club.
Coody’s departure came a day after Taylor Moore withdrew and Troy Merritt took his spot in the field. Both moves cap a tournament week already reshaped by absences and last-minute roster shuffling.
Coody carded a 6-over 76, one of the roughest scores among players still fighting for a FedEx Cup Playoffs spot.
The Tour gave no reason for the move and Coody has not commented publicly. It remains unclear whether an injury forced him out.
Despite this development, his season is not over yet. Presently, he ranks 53rd on the FedExCup leaderboard, locking him in for the St. Jude Championship next week.

The 26-year-old arrived at Sedgefield off a strong 2026 season. He tied for second at the Farmers Insurance Open in January and posted four other top-20 finishes before the summer.
Injuries have shadowed that form all year, including a back issue in March that ended his bid to reach the Masters.
The grandson of 1971 Masters champion Charles Coody has three professional wins, all on the Korn Ferry Tour. He climbed as high as No. 44 in the world ranking this February.
The story is not the same for Moore. Ranking 98th, his season ended with that withdrawal.

Brooks Koepka arrived at Greensboro with a do-or-die situation. He needs to perform well to secure a spot inside the Top 70 for his postseason to continue.
Before coming here, Koepka took a personal decision to try a new, fresh look. He is now sporting a mustache.
Koepka sits six shots off the lead through Round 1. The result leaves his season hanging by a thread.
A win would guarantee him a trip to Memphis. A runner-up or solo-third finish would likely be enough.

Play stopped at Sedgefield around 6:56 p.m. Thursday because of inclement weather. Twelve players remained on the course when officials called it for the day.
Beau Hossler set the pace before the delay, firing a 9-under 61 to take a one-shot lead. Ben James and Sahith Theegala tied for second at 8-under 62, with Eric Cole a shot further back at 63.
The first round resumed at 8 a.m. Friday, with the second round continuing on schedule behind it.
Forecasters call for scattered afternoon thunderstorms through the weekend, raising the odds of another delay before Sunday’s final round wraps up the regular season.
