The Detroit Tigers remain out west on their West Coast swing for a series against the San Francisco Giants.
On Friday, Detroit dropped the series opener to the Giants, 5-2, but did receive some positive player news ahead of Saturday’s contest.
It sounds like Jackson Jobe, who has been sidelined for more than a year, is rejoining the team to make his season debut on Saturday evening.

Jackson Jobe Set to Start on Saturday Evening

The Detroit Tigers announced that they have activated Jackson Jobe off the 60-day IL, and he will make a much-anticipated start on Saturday evening.
MLBTR.com’s Anthony Franco wrote (about what has kept Jobe sidelined for the past 14 months):
“The former #3 overall pick underwent Tommy John surgery last June. Jobe was in his first season as an MLB starter after briefly debuting in relief in 2024. He made 10 starts as a rookie, posting a 4.22 ERA despite a subpar strikeout and walk profile. Jobe was one of the sport’s top pitching prospects when he made his debut and showed huge stuff on his rehab assignment. He averaged nearly 99 mph on his four-seam fastball.”
Jobe, 24, has pitched in parts of two seasons with the Detroit Tigers, but his 2025 campaign, which was off to a solid start, was abruptly cut short due to the TJS.

As a once-top prospect, and very promising arm, Jackson Jobe is excited and eager to rejoin the Detroit Tigers’ starting rotation, and why wouldn’t he be?
In 2025, over 10 starts (12 appearances), Jobe posted an ERA of 4.22 across 49 innings with 39 strikeouts.
Jason Beck of MLB.com detailed what Jobe said about his return:
“I don’t know if it’s really hit me yet,” Jobe said. “I was sitting in Detroit, kinda waiting around to see what was going to happen. I’m just grateful to be back, to see everyone, get back in the swing of things and help the team.”
“Jobe is scheduled to start on Saturday in San Francisco, making his first Major League appearance since May 28, 2025. It’ll be like a second MLB debut for the 2021 third overall Draft pick, who was in the middle of the growing pains of a rookie starter when a right elbow injury put his career on hold.”
As for the Detroit Tigers, despite the loss on Friday, they have played very good baseball over the past few weeks, and will be relying on Jackson Jobe to give quality innings down the stretch and aid in their AL Wild Card push.
