The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a good spot early on this season. At the time of this writing, the Dodgers have a 22-13 record and are first in the National League West standings. With this, the Dodgers are once again among the top teams in the league to kick off the 2026 season.
With how this season has been going for the Dodgers, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they look to improve their roster between now and the trade deadline. The Dodgers are never afraid to make big moves, which is exactly why they have won the World Series in back-to-back years.
When looking at the Dodgers’ current roster, one of their top needs is another star pitcher in their rotation. It would be huge for them to add another high-impact starter to their roster before the deadline, and this would especially be the case when the playoffs are here.
Due to this, the Dodgers are now being seen as a potential suitor for one of the league’s top trade candidates.
Los Angeles Dodgers Named Trade Fit for Twins All-Star Pitcher Joe Ryan
In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy looked at five MLB trade candidates and named the best potential trade fits for them. Minnesota Twins star pitcher Joe Ryan was among the players discussed, and McAvoy picked the Dodgers as the top potential landing spot for the 6-foot-5 righty.
“If the Dodgers make a splash, it wouldn’t be a shock to see them go out and add another starter simply to have even more depth. Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers would be a fun name to throw out for Los Angeles, but that just doesn’t seem likely at all. It’s much more likely the Minnesota Twins flip Ryan. He has a 3.72 ERA and would give the Dodgers more ammo,” McAvoy wrote.
When looking at the Dodgers’ roster, there is no question that they could use another star pitcher like Ryan on it. He would be an excellent pickup for their pitching rotation and could thrive on a team with World Series expectations like the Dodgers.
Ryan is in the middle of a solid season with the Twins, as he has a 3.72 ERA and 40 strikeouts in eight appearances. This is after he had an All-Star campaign in 2025, where he had a 13-10 record, a 3.42 ERA, and 194 strikeouts. With numbers like these, he would be a big pickup for a Dodgers club that is looking to go on another run this fall.
Dodgers Will Likely Add a Pitcher Before the Trade Deadline
Whether it’s Ryan or somebody else, it would not be surprising in the slightest if the Dodgers aim to add at least one high-impact pitcher to their roster by the deadline. A few other pitchers who could be great fits on the Dodgers include Sandy Alcantara, Freddy Peralta, and Zack Wheeler.
It will be interesting to see what kind of moves the Dodgers make this season from here. Ryan certainly stands out as a solid potential option for Los Angeles.
