The Los Angeles Dodgers, after taking the series from the Chicago Cubs at home on Sunday afternoon, are set to take on the Miami Marlins in another three-game set at Dodger Stadium.

DodgersNation.com wrote (on April 27): “The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated veterans Will Smith and Max Muncy ahead of the first game of a three-game set against the Miami Marlins. Smith missed the last two games of the Dodgers’ series against the Cubs with a minor back issue, and Muncy exited the second game of the series with illness—also missing the final game of the set. The Dodgers won both of the final two games regardless, bouncing back from an opening game loss.”

The Dodgers are set to face the Marlins in the first game of the series @ 10:10 p.m. EST.

Will Smith has been regarded as one of MLB’s best catchers over the last several years, so he’s earned some days off, especially with the emergence of Dalton Rushing as a capable backup.

In 79 at-bats this season with the Dodgers, Will Smith is hitting .266 with three home runs and 14 RBI.

Los Angeles is 19-9 this season, and will search for their 20th win on Monday night. Despite such a strong start, the San Diego Padres have also been winning almost every night, and the Dodgers are fighting with the Atlanta Braves for the best record in baseball. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for Los Angeles, and he will oppose Chris Paddack.

Will Smith/Max Muncy’s Impact on the Dodgers Lineup

Max Muncy and Will Smith have been staples in the Dodgers lineup for several years.

They both extend the lineup beyond Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Kyle Tucker.

Smith is a three-time All-Star catcher, and Max Muncy is creeping up rapidly on the Dodgers’ all-time home run list.

Muncy is hitting a flat .300 through 90 at-bats. Hit OPS+(186), per BaseballReference, is good for best in the NL. Muncy has nine home runs and three doubles.

In 1046 games in his career, Muncy has 223 career home runs. He’s a two-time MLB All-Star as well (2019, 2021).

Both are very welcome additions to the lineup, but are subject to days off every now and then. The two tenured veterans have provided enough for Los Angeles over the years and are both beloved by the Dodgers fans.
