The Milwaukee Brewers are currently taking on the Minnesota Twins in a weekend series across MLB. The Brew Crew dropped the series opener by a score of 8-6. They still have the best record in MLB, and Milwaukee was the first team this season to reach 70 wins.
Ahead of game two of the series, the Brewers announced a pair of roster moves, which included cutting 9-year MLB pitcher Bryse Wilson and selecting the contract of Lyon Richardson.

The Milwaukee Brewers inked pitcher Bryse Wilson to a free agency deal in mid-July.
Across 13.2 IP with the Brewers this season, he actually pitched pretty efficiently, giving up just four runs, and striking out 10 batters. However, as of Saturday, August 8, Wilson has been designated for assignment by the club:

This brief 2026 stint with Milwaukee was actually the 2nd time Bryse Wilson has pitched with the Brew Crew in his career, as he was a fairly effective reliever for the club in 2023 and 2024. He now enters DFA limbo, where a few different things can happen. Due to the nature of MLB right now, my best guess is that another club claims him off waivers in the coming days.
All in all, for the 2026 season, Wilson has pitched with three clubs and logged 23.1 total innings.

“Richardson is now set for his first big league action since signing a minors deal with the Brewers in June. Once he gets into a game, it will mark Richardson’s first MLB appearance with a team other than the Reds, who chose Richardson in the second round of the 2018 draft. The righty has appeared in parts of the last four seasons, struggling to a 6.67 ERA, 17.2% strikeout rate, and a 14.6% walk rate across his 56 2/3 innings in the majors.”

Looking at Bryse Wilson’s MLB Career

Bryse Wilson has pitched in parts of nine MLB seasons with several different clubs. He came up with the Atlanta Braves, then has pretty much bounced all across the NL Central.
The only NL Central club Wilson has not played for is the Cincinnati Reds.
Across 172 appearances and 484+ innings, Wilson holds a career ERA of 4.79. He’s been a fairly serviceable arm throughout his career.
Given that he’s been DFA’d multiple times in his career, if another team doesn’t claim him and the Brewers outright Wilson to the minors, he’s very likely to elect free agency, which is why this roster move is essentially ‘cutting ties’ with the 28-year-old right-hander. It’s certainly plausible that Milwaukee could bring him back on a minors pact, but that would be in like a week, following his DFA limbo process.
