The New York Yankees have split the first two games of their weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays, setting up a decisive rubber match on Sunday.
Yet, the biggest storyline to come out of New York this weekend was veteran Giancarlo Stanton suffering another injury. Stanton has spent several months on the IL with a calf strain but strained his other calf while rehabbing.
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Stanton fell while running the bases as part of his ramp-up process to return to the field.
Boone’s Update on Stanton
Boone shared the update before Saturday’s loss. While he didn’t rule out a return this season, his comments didn’t sound particularly optimistic.
“Unfortunately, he strained his other calf. He was running a couple days ago, had fallen, and the other calf is strained,” Boone said. “It’s a moderate grade. What that means moving forward, we’re not ruling anything out. He’ll obviously continue to work to try to get it right and hopefully be available, but obviously we’re at a point in the calendar where it gets challenging.”

Luis Garcia Jr. Reacts to Injury
One of the newest Yankees, Luis Garcia Jr., who was acquired at the trade deadline, shared an honest reaction to Stanton’s injury after Saturday’s game.
Garcia has yet to share the field with Stanton since joining New York but remains confident the veteran slugger will return strong.
“I’m sure he’s going to come back fast and I know he’s strong… we’ll see him soon,” Garcia Jr. said.
“There’s no doubt in my mind, when he comes back, he’s going to come back strong,” he added. “Even if he’s not on the field, he’s still supporting us and providing very good energy here.”
