The San Francisco Giants placed their ace starting pitcher, Logan Webb, on the 15-day injured list due to right knee bursitis, the team announced. The Giants will recall right-handed pitcher Trevor McDonolad from Triple-A Sacramento.

After a frustrating outing against the San Diego Padres on May 6, Webb stated postgame that he was dealing with knee discomfort. The Giants’ ace went only 4 innings and allowed 7 hits and 6 earned runs in the 10-5 loss.

Logan Webb Early Season Struggles

Webb had high expectations entering the 2026 season. The right-handed pitcher made back-to-back All-Star appearances in 2024 and 2025. He has consistently been in the Cy Young race and was the runner-up in 2023.

But the 29-year-old has struggled early in the season. Webb has a 2-4 record with a 5.06 ERA through 8 starts and has not produced at his all-star level.

“This is Webb’s first time on the IL since 2021, but the Giants expect that he’ll be back when eligible in a couple of weeks,” according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He has successfully pitched through this issue before. The plan is to just give him a few days to get treatment on the knee.”

Webb had an early start to his baseball season after pitching for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

Trevor McDonald Recalled From Triple-A Sacramento

To fill the void of Logan Webb, the Giants called up Trevor McDonald from Triple-A Sacramento. McDonald was called up earlier this week and pitched admirably against the Padres before being sent down the day after.

The right-handed pitcher threw only 81 pitches over 7 innings in the 3-2 victory. He allowed only 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 8 batters. The Giants will hope to get similar production from the 25-year-old while Webb recovers from his injury.
