Nuggets' superstar center Nikola Jokic has been predicted to win the 2025-26 MVP Award

With all of his focus on the NBA Playoffs, Nikola Jokic won’t be asked about a possible extension with the Denver Nuggets until after the current postseason run.

As for his agent, the situation is slightly different. Misko Raznatovic makes the deals for Jokic. Therefore, he discusses them publicly if asked as well.

During a recent sit-down with Front Office Sports, Jokic’s agent was asked about a possible extension. Were there any talks recently, and is one on the way? According to Raznatovic, Jokic is true to his public word: no extension talks until basketball is on break.

Why A Jokic Extension Is On Hold

“During the season, his focus is on basketball,” Raznatovic said. “Winning the games and trying to get one more MVP title, so all the conversations about the contract extension will happen after the season. So, we practically didn’t touch this topic.”

A player in this situation would typically like to lock up an extension as soon as possible. Seeing as though Jokic is an MVP finalist, his value is up. However, Jokic is in a rare position. He’s one of the very few stars who doesn’t have anything to prove.

When Jokic wants an extension, it will be for the max amount. If the Nuggets had a change of heart and didn’t want to make that kind of offer, then he could get it elsewhere.

With that kind of demand and power, there’s no need to rush.

Should The Nuggets Offer Jokic An Extension Right Away?

When the line is open, the Nuggets shouldn’t waste any time. While they still have Jokic on the books for a guaranteed season in 2026-2027, the veteran center holds a player option for the 2027-2028 season.

There haven’t been any worries of a decline. Therefore, the Nuggets are unlikely to hesitate to talk shop with Jokic’s representatives whenever the star center is ready.

Jokic just wrapped up the 2026-2026 NBA season with 65 appearances. In those games, he averaged 27.7 points, 10.7 assists, and 12.9 rebounds per game. He was the assists and rebounds champion. Jokic is also on pace for another All-NBA nod, and could win MVP again.
