Former Detroit Pistons guard Dennis Schroder just went on the move for the third time since parting ways with the team last summer.
The 32-year-old guard has had an eventful but potentially exhausting NBA run, which has included a nearly record-breaking amount of trades since he’s been in the league.
Yet, Schroder isn’t exhausted enough to leave the league when his next contract is up. According to EuroHoops.net, Schroder is looking to have a two-to-four-year timeline left on his career. Two of those seasons will be played out on his current deal.
Why Didn’t The Pistons Retain Schroder?

The Pistons became one of the many teams to take on Schroder during the 2024-2025 NBA season.
Coming off a 14-win season, the Pistons were starting to show signs of being playoff contenders. As they geared up for their first postseason run in years, Detroit became the third team to acquire Schroder that year, after he started with the Brooklyn Nets, before getting traded to the Golden State Warriors.

The Pistons had a desire to bring Schroder back, but they couldn’t meet his price point. The Sacramento Kings had a bigger offer on the table, and the Pistons weren’t willing to match the three-year, $44.4 million deal he’s currently on.

After posting averages of 10.8 points and 5.3 assists with the Pistons, Schroder appeared in 40 games for the Kings last season. He shot 40.8% from the field, and averaged 12.8 points, along with 5.3 assists.
Midway through the year, Schroder was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He put up 8.2 points per game, along with 4.3 assists per game.
Schroder was recently traded to the Charlotte Hornets in a five-team deal. The veteran guard will suit up for one of Detroit’s heated rivals next season.
