It looks like Terry Stotts’ hopes of reuniting with the Portland Trail Blazers after leaving Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors are going to be let down.
However, that doesn’t mean that Stotts has lost all opportunities to find a head coaching spot after serving as an assistant for the past few years.
According to The Stein Line, Stotts is “certain” to get an interview to possibly replace Jason Kidd as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

Terry Stotts is no stranger to the Mavericks’ organization. Following his second head coaching job in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks, Stotts joined the Mavericks to become an assistant in 2008.
Stotts held that position until 2012, when he was hired by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Terry Stotts’ Coaching History
His first head coaching spot came with the Atlanta Hawks in 2022.
Stotts coached the Hawks for two seasons. He achieved a 52-85 record, missing the playoffs twice.
After one season as an assistant in Golden State, Stotts went to the Milwaukee Bucks for a run as the head coach. They made the playoffs in year one, before going 23-41 in year two. That led Stotts to his four-year run in Dallas.
Then came a nine-year run with the Blazers. Over nine seasons, Stotts’ Blazers won 55.8% of their games. They made the playoffs eight times.
After parting ways with the Blazers in 2021, Stotts went to the Warriors to coach with Steve Kerr over a two-season span.
Dallas Mavericks’ Coaching State
Jason Kidd was shockingly let go on May 19.
The Mavericks had interest in San Antonio’s Sean Sweeney, but he was picked up by the Orlando Magic.
According to The Stein Line, Stotts could end up being in a batch of “dozen or so” candidates. With Cooper Flagg as the head of the snake in Dallas, the position should be a popular one. The ex-Warriors assistant should soon have his chance to state a case.
