When the Golden State Warriors officially realized that their 2025-2026 NBA season was coming to a close much earlier than anticipated, reality set in for Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and the head coach, Steve Kerr.

Some of the most prominent figures on one of the most notable dynasties in the history of sports might’ve worked their final game together.

The three huddled near the end of the game to hear a message from Kerr. It was short, but the message was clear: “I don’t what’s going to happen next, but I love you guys to death. Thank you. Appreciate you,” Kerr told his guys.

After the game, Curry shared his thoughts on the moment, which went viral with millions of views.

“We’ve lost games. You’ve ended your season a lot of different ways. And you’ve had those moments on the sideline where you go up and down and, you know, thank everybody for what they poured into the year, but for it to start with that conversation and that moment, it was definitely weird,” Curry told reporters.

“We had spent the last, you know, off-season, but really the last two weeks, trying to hone in on just the moment right now that we had to extend our season, and then all of a sudden, you look up and time’s run out.”

Curry and the Warriors couldn’t imagine losing in the NBA Play-In Tournament as a 10th seed back before the season started. Golden State fully anticipated being in the title conversation once again.

But every team deals with its bouts of injury setbacks, especially if the team is older. Jimmy Butler’s season was halted when he tore an ACL. Steph Curry missed a large chunk of the year as he battled a knee-related setback.

Across the entire roster, the Warriors dealt with plenty of injuries, and the hits just kept on coming. In the end, the Warriors failed to accomplish their goal. Now, the future is murky.

“I do appreciate the fact that he took that moment, because regardless, like we’re human beings and we have to be able to acknowledge each other in that moment,” Curry added.

“But I don’t know if that’s a signal of anything. It’s just we wanted to appreciate what we’ve all poured into this journey, given what guys have been able to accomplish, how are you going to remember the season, given all the ups and downs, it was a roller coaster ride, to say the least.”

The Warriors’ Future Comes Into Question

Stephen Curry confirmed that he plans to keep going. The Warriors are likely to keep the superstar guard around for as long as he’d like.

As for the others in that huddle, there’s a big question mark.

Draymond Green has a player option on his contract for the 2026-2027 NBA season. He could opt out and hit the free agency market and explore different options. Or, the Warriors could choose to part ways with him via trade later on down the line.

Meanwhile, Steve Kerr is on an expiring contract. After choosing not to discuss an extension with the Warriors during the 2025 offseason, the head coach is going to take some time to think about his future.

The next few weeks will be critical for the Golden State Warriors.
