Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors had two teams on his radar at the trade deadline amid Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks.

After taking some time to think about the future, Steve Kerr has ultimately decided to return to the Golden State Warriors.

On Saturday night, ESPN reported that Kerr is returning to the organization on a new two-year deal. While that guarantees the Steph Curry era with the Warriors will continue, the Warriors still have a major question mark surrounding Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler.

The latter player is currently in the midst of recovering from a torn ACL. The Warriors will have to solve the Green concern before anything.

The early indicators signal a higher chance of returning to the Warriors than moving on.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, sources from within the Warriors’ organization have suggested that a long-term extension isn’t off the table. Those discussions will be waiting for June and July, when the markets are opening up.

In the meantime, Green can think about what he wants. The veteran forward has until June 29 to decide whether he wants to pick up or decline his $27.6 million player option for his age-36 season.

While Green has the power to take on that guaranteed salary number for next year, the Warriors still have options. For now, Golden State doesn’t have intentions of shopping Green or convincing him to decline his option.

“On the court, they still view him as an additive winner with an elite defensive skill set that plays up when the stakes rise,” Slater reports. “Off the court, the organization felt he had a positive season as a leader, while his acumen and voice essentially make him another assistant coach.”

The 2026-2025 NBA season will serve as the 15th year for Green.

In 2025-2026, Green appeared in 68 games. The veteran forward made 41.8% of his shots from the field and hit on 32.6% of his threes, averaging 8.4 points per game. He also averaged 5.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds.
