Golden State Warriors Reportedly No Longer Interested In Former NBA 2nd Overall Pick

Lonzo Ball began his 2025-26 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The former UCLA star has averages of 4.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 30.1% from the field and 27.2% from three-point range in 35 games.

However, Ball was traded to the Utah Jazz last month.

Golden State Reportedly No Longer Interested In Lonzo Ball

After the trade to Utah, Ball was waived, so he is currently a free agent who is available to sign with any team in the league.

One team who could have been a landing spot for Ball was the Golden State Warriors.

That said, Marc Stein of The Stein Line reports the team no longer has interest (h/t @DNVR_Nuggets). 

Stein: “Both Golden State and Denver, teams that were linked to Lonzo Ball early in the process; it seems like they’ve faded away.”

Ball was once seen as a potential All-Star when he was selected with the second pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

That said, injuries have derailed the prime of his career.

When he has been healthy, he is a solid point guard with career averages of 10.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 39.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range in 322 games.

ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote (on February 4): “The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to trade Lonzo Ball and two second-round picks to the Utah Jazz, sources tell ESPN.”

At just 28, there still could be a team out there who takes a chance on Ball (without having to risk much).

During the 2020 season, Ball averaged 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 37.5% from three-point range in 63 games.

He has also spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls over nine years.

As for the Warriors, they are coming off a 114-101 loss to the LA Clippers (at home).

They are the eighth seed in the Western Conference with a 31-30 record in 61 games.

On Thursday night, the Warriors will visit the Houston Rockets.
