Giannis Antetokounmpo’s sharpshooting sidekick has arrived. On Sunday, two-time All-NBA wingman Klay Thompson agreed two-year, $11.5 million contract. The Miami Heat adds one of the greatest shooters in league history to the roster.
According to The Athletic, Thompson officially agreed to his Heat contract on Sunday.
“Klay Thompson cleared waivers Sunday and agreed to sign a two-year, $11.5 million contract with the Miami Heat, a league source told The Athletic,” the report stated. “The source spoke anonymously because the deal had not yet been announced. The second year is a player option, and the deal also includes a 15 percent trade kicker. Thompson, 36, will join forces with Giannis Antetokounmpo as he enters his 14th season with the revamped Heat. A career 40.9 percent 3-point shooter, Thompson is expected to provide much-needed floor spacing for Antetokounmpo and fellow Heat big man Bam Adebayo.”

Thompson, 36, was a subject of heavy speculation this offseason after a down year with the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson joined the Mavs as a free agent in 2024 with the aim of competing for a fifth championship alongside Luka Doncic, who was traded just months later to the Los Angeles Lakers in a stunning blockbuster.
On Friday, Thompson reached a contract buyout agreement with the Mavs and immediately intended to join the Heat.
Thompson had interest in joining the Heat this offseason, according to team insider Ethan Skolnick, and videos on social media showing Thompson training with Heat players only intensified the Thompson-to-Miami buzz.
Last season, the five-time All-Star averaged 11.7 points and shot 38 percent from the 3-point line. The Heat, which acquired Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in June, made it a priority to add sharpshooters around its new two-time NBA MVP.
This offseason, Miami has added Bobby Portis, Tim Hardaway Jr, and now Thompson to bolster its 3-point shooting.
