NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 05: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves warms up before the game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on November 05, 2025 in New York City.

The Minnesota Timberwolves saw the unexpected injury return of Anthony Edwards in Game 1 of their second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs just nine days after he suffered a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee.

Edwards scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 series lead over the Spurs, yet still, he landed on the injury report as ‘questionable’ heading into Game 2 of the series.

While Edwards didn’t address any specific injury concerns after his performance in Game 1, his status for Wednesday night is still up in the air, but based on the latest update by Shams Charania of ESPN, Minnesota expects to have its star back in hopes of taking a 2-0 series lead over San Antonio.

GettyDENVER, COLORADO – APRIL 18: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves warms up prior to playing the Denver Nuggets in Game One of the First Round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Ball Arena on April 18, 2026 in Denver, Colorado.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Charania detailed that while Edwards was initially expected to be out for multiple weeks, the Timberwolves weren’t going to re-evaluate him until later in the second-round series.

“They weren’t expecting to evaluate him at all to play until after Game 2. They thought Game 3, Game 4 at the earliest,” the insider said. “Anthony Edwards, he went through multiple treatment options…he went through everything to try to see if he could play and he was able to get on the court.”

However, Edwards skipped the traditional recovery work and instead progressed quicker than anyone on the team thought was possible. But though he did play in Game 1, the star is questionable for Game 2. Still, according to Charania, based on how quick Edwards returned from his left knee injury, he doesn’t expect that to keep him out for the Timberwolves’ upcoming matchup.

Additionally, while Edwards was on a minute restriction in Game 1 and was left out of the starting lineup, Charania believes the shooting guard could play even more than he did on Monday night, despite his current ‘questionable’ tag.

“I do think his knee is feeling better,” Charania added. “The hope is in Game 2 tonight, bump his minutes up a little bit more, and see what he can do.”

Edwards is officially listed on the NBA’s injury report as questionable for Game 2. Still, based on Charania’s reporting and his strong recent history of returning from injuries, it looks as though he’ll be ready to suit up for the Timberwolves.

Minnesota Gets Boost With Ayo Dosunmu Injury News For Game 2

GettyMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – APRIL 25: Ayo Dosunmu #13 of the Minnesota Timberwolves celebrates against the Denver Nuggets in the third quarter of Game Four of the First Round of the 2026 NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Target Center on April 25, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets 112-96.

While Minnesota has yet to announce a new Edwards injury update heading into Game 2 against the Spurs, the team did confirm that Ayo Dosunmu is available for Wednesday night in San Antonio.

The guard missed the team’s closeout game against the Denver Nuggets and the first game of this series with a lingering calf injury he picked up in the regular season. However, after first being questionable like Edwards, the Timberwolves have most recently upgraded his status for Game 2.

Without Donte DiVincenzo, who is out for the rest of the season and longer with a torn Achilles tendon, like he was in Game 4 against Denver, Dosunmu remains a crucial piece for Minnesota as they continue their postseason run in hopes of making a third-straight conference finals appearance.

Since he was acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago Bulls, head coach Chris Finch has only given Dosunmu more responsibilities, and while they haven’t necessarily missed his presence with their two wins without him, getting back the rising star in the backcourt is more good news for the Timberwolves.

Regardless, Edwards’ injury status remains the top priority for Minnesota. Based on Charania’s comments, there is hope he’ll play in Game 2, but for now, his final status isn’t yet confirmed, and won’t be until the Timberwolves offer a final update.

The Timberwolves vs Spurs series continues at 8:30 pm CST on Wednesday, May 6, with Game 2 live on ESPN.
