The New York Knicks received a much-needed boost ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, as Landry Shamet is off the injury report and has been cleared to return from injury.

Shamet, who had missed the previous five games with a knee issue, is available to play and could step into a larger role depending on the status of Jalen Brunson, who remains questionable with ankle soreness.

His return also softens the impact of Miles McBride’s absence, with the backup guard ruled out as the Knicks continue to manage injuries across the roster.

Shamet Returns at Key Time for Knicks

Shamet’s availability provides timely reinforcement for New York’s backcourt, which has been dealing with multiple injury concerns and inconsistent play.

With McBride sidelined and Brunson’s status uncertain, Shamet is expected to take on increased responsibilities alongside guards like Jordan Clarkson and Jose Alvarado.

His ability to space the floor and contribute offensively offers a stabilizing presence for a unit that has struggled to find rhythm during the team’s recent slide.

Injury Interrupted Growing Role

Shamet had been building momentum before his recent absence.

He exited New York’s March 20 win over the Brooklyn Nets in the third quarter after logging 22 minutes, finishing with three points, three rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.

While the stat line was modest, his overall role within the rotation had been trending upward before the injury.

Breakout Stretch Before Injury

February marked a turning point for Shamet, as he emerged as one of the Knicks’ more reliable bench contributors.

His playing time increased to 26.2 minutes per game during the month, and his production followed.

Shamet averaged 12.4 points, 2.1 assists and 1.7 rebounds while shooting an efficient 44.3% from three-point range.

That stretch helped solidify his place in head coach Mike Brown’s rotation and showcased his value as a consistent perimeter threat.

For the season, Shamet is averaging 9.6 points while shooting 38.8% from beyond the arc across 46 appearances.

Knicks Searching for Stability

New York (48–28) enters Wednesday’s game in a difficult stretch, having dropped three consecutive contests — all by double digits.

Despite already clinching a playoff berth, the Knicks are feeling increasing pressure to regain form.

They enter the game just one game ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers for third place in the Eastern Conference, making each remaining game critical for playoff positioning.

Opportunity Against Short-Handed Grizzlies

The matchup against Memphis presents a chance to reset.

The Grizzlies (25–50) are dealing with multiple injuries, including the absence of star guard Ja Morant, and have struggled throughout the season.

The Knicks defeated Memphis 133–120 in their previous meeting, with Brunson leading the way with 32 points.

However, New York’s recent form has introduced uncertainty, and consistency remains a concern.

Shamet Could Play Key Role in Response

With multiple rotation players sidelined and Brunson’s status uncertain, Shamet’s return could help stabilize the Knicks’ offense.

His shooting ability and growing comfort within the system provide a valuable option as New York looks to snap its losing streak.

As the playoffs approach, contributions from role players like Shamet may become increasingly important.

For the Knicks, Wednesday presents both a challenge and an opportunity.

And Shamet’s return — especially in the context of McBride’s absence — offers a timely boost as they try to regain their footing.
