The NBA announced the two Rookie of the Month winners for March on Thursday, April 2.
Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is the winner to represent the Eastern Conference.
via NBA on X: Sacramento Kings center Maxime Raynaud and Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe have been named the Kia NBA Western and Eastern Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in March.
Edgecombe and Raynaud beat out Kon Knueppel, Will Riley, Ace Bailey, Cooper Flagg, and Dylan Harper.
VJ Edgecombe Had A Strong March
Throughout March, Edgecombe missed a small stretch of games. He was absent for three matchups against the Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Those absences weren’t enough to affect Edgecombe’s running for the monthly award.
He appeared in 13 games, helping the very undermanned Sixers post a 7-6 record. Seeing the court for over 32 minutes per game, Edgecombe shot 45.4% from the field, and knocked down 36.1% from three, on 5.5 attempts per game.
With his efficient shooting, Edgecombe averaged 18.9 points per game, along with 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Defensively, he’s snatching 1.2 steals per game.
Edgecombe is top three this season in scoring for NBA rookies. He leads all rookies for steals per game.
A Look At VJ Edgecombe’s Rookie Season
Overall, Edgecombe has appeared in 69 games this season, seeing the court for an average of 34.8 minutes. He is producing 16.1 points per game on 44.0% shooting, while serving as a full-time starter for the Sixers.
The former third-overall pick is gearing up for his first postseason action in the coming weeks, as the Sixers have clinched a Play-In spot. They are currently fighting for a top-six seed as well.
