The Philadelphia 76ers are looking forward to getting a key player back in the mix against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, March 25.

Depending on the statuses of Joel Embiid and Quentin Grimes, the Sixers could get two more notable boosts as they look to improve their spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

When it comes to Quentin Grimes, he’s on the injury report for just the second game in a row. The standout guard is dealing with an illness, which popped up ahead of Monday night’s action against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He was considered questionable to play against the Bulls.

Before the March 23 loss against the OKC Thunder, Grimes’ last absence was against the New York Knicks on February 11. He appeared in 17-straight games after making his return.

During that stretch, Grimes had impressive flashes, as the Sixers needed him to step up. He averaged 17.3 points while shooting 47.7% from the field.

Along with Grimes, the Sixers’ starting center, Joel Embiid, is on the injury report, listed as questionable against the Bulls. The All-Star big man has been dealing with an oblique strain, which has caused a month’s worth of absences.

Even if Grimes and Embiid can’t get the nod to play, the Sixers will benefit from the return of Paul George, who wrapped up a 25-game suspension on Monday.

Quentin Grimes is currently in a contract season for the second year in a row.

When he was a restricted player over the summer, Grimes didn’t land any notable offers from teams outside of Philadelphia. He accepted the Sixers’ qualifying offer, which is earning him $8.74 million for the 2025-2026 season.

Grimes will become a free agent again in July, but this time around, he’ll be unrestricted. His final stretch of the regular season–plus a potential playoff run–will be major for his future.

The veteran guard landed in the NBA as a first-round, 25th overall pick out of Houston in 2021. He was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers but traded to the New York Knicks. Grimes spent three seasons with the Knicks, averaging 8.6 points.

During the 2023-2024 season, the Knicks traded Grimes to the Detroit Pistons. He saw the court for just six games with the Pistons. During the 2024 offseason, Grimes was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The veteran appeared in 47 games with the Mavs before getting moved to the 76ers.

Last year, Grimes produced an average of 16.3 points per game, while shooting 39.8% from beyond the arc.

This season, Grimes is posting averages of 13.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
