The Daryl Morey era has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers. On Tuesday, the team officially announced that Morey will not return as the President of Basketball Operations for the 2026-2027 NBA season.

Shortly after the news broke, the Sixers announced a quick message to Morey to confirm the major move to begin the offseason.

The 76ers Will Start Fresh In The Front Office

Back in the fall, the 76ers’ Managing Group, HBSE, hired former Golden State Warriors Executive Bob Myers to oversee multiple teams in the company’s portfolio.

Although Myers isn’t expected to take over for Morey, he will serve the interim role while leading the search for the next President of Basketball Operations.

Morey leaves behind a six-year tenure with the 76ers. He joined the organization following the 2019-2020 NBA season. That year, the 76ers were swept in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics.

Over six years, the 76ers achieved a 270-212 record with Morey’s rosters. The Sixers made the playoffs four out of five times. After six years, the team hasn’t been able to get to the Eastern Conference Finals.

This past playoff run included a second-round sweep against the New York Knicks. The Sixers took two days to think about the future, and it resulted in Morey losing his spot.

The First Of Many Moves?

The 76ers probably won’t see too many changes across the board. Morey’s departure could shake up the front office.

As far as the coaching staff goes, Nick Nurse is expected to remain with the team for at least another season. As far as the roster goes, a new President of Basketball Operations will decide on the team’s core, but it’s unlikely the Sixers will consider making major moves up top right away.

Before the Sixers do anything else, they’ll have to find their Morey replacement. The rest will get figured out over time.
