San Antonio Spurs Announce Victor Wembanyama Status For Trail Blazers Game

The San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama called the Detroit Pistons tough.

On Sunday night, the San Antonio Spurs will open up their first-round playoff series with the Portland Trail Blazers (at home) in Texas.

The Spurs are in the NBA playoffs for the first time since the 2019 season.

Victor Wembanyama was able to lead the franchise back to the postseason in just his third year.

Wembanyama had dealt with an injury toward the end of the regular season.

That said, he will be good to go on Sunday.

Matt Guzman of San Antonio Spurs OnSI wrote: “#Spurs coach Mitch Johnson says that Dylan Harper is expected be AVAILABLE for Game 1. In case there was any debate, Victor Wembanyama is also fully good to go.”

Wembanyama finished the regular season with averages of 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks per contest while shooting 51.2% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range in 64 games.

He was the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Real App wrote (on April 12): “Wemby is the first player in NBA history to average 25+ PPG & 10+ RPG in under 30 MIN.”

Spurs This Season

The Spurs finished the 2025-26 regular season as the second seed in the Western Conference with a 62-20 record.

They went 8-2 over their final ten games (and are 32-8 at home).

Before their recent drought, the Spurs had been among the premier franchises in the NBA.

They won five titles from 1999-2014.

Wembanyama is on track to go down with other Spurs greats such as Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Manu Ginóbili and Tony Parker.

Game 2 of the series will on Tuesday.

Trail Blazers Ahead Of Spurs Series

The Trail Blazers are also back in the NBA playoffs after a drought.

They last reached the postseason in 2021.

This season, the team went 42-40, which has them as the seventh seed in the Western Conference (they beat the Phoenix Suns in the play-in tournament).

On the road, the Trail Blazers have gone 18-23 in 41 games away from Oregon.
