Dolphins Predicted to Trade for Eagles Quarterback

The Dolphins are predicted to trade for an Ealges quarterback

After the Miami Dolphins made the decision to part ways with their head coach and general manager, the team finds itself in a new era. Following the season, the Dolphins hired former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as the team’s new general manager.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, one of the reasons the Dolphins landed on Sullivan was that he was a scout with executive traits. In particular, one aspect that impressed the Dolphins was Sullivan’s ability to find the successor to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Breer said, “The young executive was the first Packers scout on Jordan Love and became Love’s biggest advocate as the 2020 draft drew closer. The Dolphins liked that part of it. But as much as the evaluation, they liked Sullivan’s vision and conviction, and the Packers’ resolve, in making a call for the long term, that wouldn’t help in the short term, and could (and did) rankle Aaron Rodgers.”

After the Dolphins benched quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the team must now decide whether to go back to him in 2026. Another possible option is remaining with seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers, who started the final three games of the season for the Dolphins.

Dolphins Predicted to Trade for a Quarterback

Perhaps the solution for the Dolphins isn’t already in the building. Free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft are both possible options Miami has to find a quarterback. ESPN analyst Ben Solak came up with a different solution to Miami’s problem, as he has the Dolphins trading for Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee. In his prediction, Solak said, “The Eagles will deal QB2 Tanner McKee to the Dolphins in exchange for a middle-round pick.”

McKee has been the backup to Jalen Hurts for two seasons, and despite Hurts leading the team to a Super Bowl win in 2025, some fans have called for McKee to replace him. McKee was drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and started one game as a rookie. In that game, McKee went 27-for-41 with 269 passing yards and two touchdowns. However, in his lone start in the 2025 season, McKee struggled as he went 21-for-40 with 241 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The McKee proposition is an interesting one for Miami. With limited cap space, the Dolphins will likely have to resort to unique solutions for the quarterback position. Taking a chance on a quarterback who’s on a sixth-round rookie contract for two more seasons would help Miami solve their cap issues.

Miami Dolphins Quarterback Competition

With the Dolphins not currently having a head coach on the team, it seems unlikely any decision on the team’s quarterback will be made any time soon. Prior to former head coach Mike McDaniel’s dismissal, the team had revealed that the plan was for the Dolphins to bring in another quarterback and create competition for the starting job. McDaniel had also not ruled out the possibility of Quinn Ewers remaining the team’s starter in 2026.

Regarding the quarterback position, Sullivan had previously said, “You always have to be assessing your quarterback situation, making sure that you have a quarterback that you can win with.” He will now hope to find a quarterback the Dolphins can win with.
