The Miami Dolphins made an aggressive change at quarterback this offseason, moving on from Tua Tagovailoa and bringing in Malik Willis to replace him.

Over the last two years, Willis has turned his NFL career around. After a rough start with the Tennessee Titans, the former Liberty standout was acquired by the Green Bay Packers. He turned into one of the league’s best backups behind Jordan Love.

In each of the last two years, Willis has performed well when called upon.

With that being said, the new Dolphins quarterback went viral on Friday night into Saturday due to an awful first pitch at the Miami Marlins game.

Fans didn’t take long getting into the comments sections to share their thoughts on Willis’ first pitch.

NFL Fans Roast Dolphins QB Malik Willis After Bad First Pitch

In the comments section of Adam Schefter’s tweet and video, the fans did not let Willis’ dreadful first pitch slide.

@ThtsGr8“My guy thought he was throwing a 60-yard touchdown.”

@buddy_ammon: “A sign of things to come for the dolphins.”

@RHali13: “It can’t be this hard to just throw it to the catcher like c’mon.”

@Silent97Percent: “I get that he’s not a baseball player but dude? A 5 year old can make that throw.”

@JDevilSports: “Nice deep ball! The Dolphins are in good hands.”

@BlkModerate: “Not the worst I have seen, but that might have been the most below expectations first pitch in history!”

Malik Willis Has a Chance to Be Special for Dolphins

Last season with the Packers, Willis completed 85.7 percent of his pass attempts for 422 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also chipped in with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Back in his first season with Green Bay in 2024, Willis threw for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while completing 40 of his 54 passes. He ran for 138 yards and a touchdown as well.

In limited action with the Packers, Willis played like a star. Whether or not he can replicate that success in Miami remains to be seen.

That being said, the Dolphins badly need their three-year, $67.5 million deal with Willis pan out. He has the talent to be a long-term option for Miami, but will need to prove it on the field.

Seeing a starting NFL quarterback mess up a first pitch that badly isn’t ideal. Thankfully, throwing a baseball and a football are two very separate things.
