The brand-new Philadelphia Eagles offense is certainly going through the bumps and bruises of one week of training camp.
There have been plenty of highs, thanks to guys like wide receivers Dontayvion Wicks and Darius Cooper making multiple great plays. Philly has also had their struggles with Jalen Hurts and the offense building chemistry under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
It’s too early to be hard on the Eagles, as they are trending in the right direction. While it isn’t perfect, Hurts was able to be quite the wordsman with a perfect way to describe things right now.
One Word Sticks Out That Jalen Hurts Used Regarding Eagles’ Offense

After practice on Wednesday, Hurts spoke with the media about practice and the first week of training camp. The word that Hurts used that made a ton of sense for everyone: “calibrating.”
“I like to think of the term calibrating,” Hurts said via The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane. “This is a time where we’re kind of putting it together and finding out who we are. We’ve got a lot of new pieces, an entirely new approach and MO, philosophy, to our offense. Being able to put that together and make it our own, I’m excited about where we are.”
Hurts has plenty to be excited about with all the weapons that are around him. Once DeVonta Smith and rookie Makai Lemon are healthy, he can work with two of the top three receivers.
Wicks is already looking like the number two receiver in this offense, while Cooper is making noise as a training camp darling for the second straight year. Marquise Brown has a chance to be a legitimate deep threat once he and Hurts get on the same page. Watch for Elijah Moore to be a threat, as he is having a quietly good training camp.
Jalen Hurts Must Connect With His Eagles Receivers & Sean Mannion

With so much focus on Hurts gelling with the receivers, his relationship with Mannion is just as important. Last year was proof that when Hurts and the OC are not on the same page, the results can be ugly.
Mannion is learning how to be a play caller for the first time. That means he needs to work with Hurts on making sure he is comfortable with the calls. At the same time, Hurts needs to be ready to adjust to the kind of offense Mannion wants to run.
This “calibrating” period is so important on so many levels for the Eagles. Once everyone is on the same page, this offense has a chance to be one of the best in the NFL.
