The Minnesota Wild swung big when they acquired defenseman Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks.
They sent away major assets, including Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first round pick. While the Wild are now down a lot of trade chips from that deal, it doesn’t mean they’re done swinging.
Wild, Bill Guerin Not Done Making Trades per Report
Per a piece by Michael Russo of The Athetlic, Bill Guerin isn’t afraid to make more trades.
“The fact the Wild’s veteran core stepped up and rewarded Guerin’s faith also gives him motivation to put them further into “serious contender” category.
You can bet Guerin isn’t done.”
Russo’s report continued:
“So Guerin’s not messing around. He almost certainly wants to and plans to take one more big swing, probably for a center, and likely use more picks and prospects to do so…When asked after the Hughes blockbuster if he has enough assets to make another move, Guerin said, ‘We can do stuff.’
So whether it’s today, tomorrow, next week or next month, Guerin will be on the prowl for what’s next.
For the record, Guerin simply said, ‘We’re always looking. I always want to get better, and if there’s something we can do, then yeah, we’ll do it.'”
Minnesota Has Promising Odds for Stanley Cup Playoffs
Per MoneyPuck, the Minnesota Wild currently hold some promising post-season odds:
- 99.4% to make playoffs
- 55.1% to make 2nd round
- 28.4% to make 3rd round
- 15.8% to make Stanley Cup Final
- 8.4% to win Stanley Cup
Though these odds are all top 5 in the NHL, the Wild only hold a 3% chance to win the Central. This is because the Avalanche have the entire league in a chokehold, and Minnesota must still fight off the Dallas Stars.
Minnesota Looks to Start 2026 Off on the Right Foot
The Wild will begin 2026 just as they concluded 2025; chasing the trails of the Colorado Avalanche.
In the final game of 2025, the Wild dropped a game in OT to the San Jose Sharks. They begin their 2026 with an exhibition against the Ducks in Anaheim.
The Wild still trail the Avs by 12 points, though they are now only 2 points behind the Dallas Stars. Minnesota also holds a 14-point lead on Utah and the field in the Central divsion.
