The buzz surrounding the young lineup of the Montreal Canadiens is palpable. They enter this NHL season with the youngest lineup in the league at an average age of 25-years-old. They will take on a new look Toronto Maple Leafs team on opening night before heading to Detroit to take on the Red Wings in the first of 16 back-to-backs scheduled this season.

The lines have been announced for Montreal.

To nobody’s surprise, Sam Montembeault will get the start between the pipes. Montembault emerged as the starting tender last season, playing in 62 games and picking up 31 wins.

Fans will look to him to establish consistency during a long season.

“Montembeault isn’t flashy, but he’s reliable. His numbers last year weren’t just good on paper. The underlying stats tell the story of a goaltender who can handle a heavy workload and keep a team in games,” writes Old Prof for Trade Talk Sports. “It’s clear he’s recognized around the league as more than just a capable starter – he’s a cornerstone for the Canadiens.”
