Under the leadership of new general manager John Chayka, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the busiest teams so far in the NHL offseason. Not only has Chayka completely transformed Toronto’s front office and coaching staff, but has also brought aboard several new faces in the lineup while bidding goodbye to several others.
One of the players that Chayka signed is NHL veteran Colton Sissons, who agreed to a two-year, $8.5 million contract. Having previously played with the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights, he said that joining an Original 6 club like the Maple Leafs is a special opportunity that players don’t take for granted.
“The opportunity to put the Maple Leafs sweater on is probably number one,” Sissons said. “That’s a pretty special experience for any player, and it’s tough to pass up an opportunity like that.”

Sissons, who has played his entire NHL career in the Western Conference, is looking forward to teaming up with players like Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and William Nylander.
“Obviously, all three of those are quite special players. I’ve been out West my whole career, so I haven’t seen a ton of them,” Sissons said. “They’re just special players that you can really build around. You need those superstars to win in this league, and I’m really happy to be joining them.”
Among the other players that Sissons will be joining that are new in town for Toronto include Sergei Bobrovsky, who helped the divisional rival Florida Panthers win back to back Stanley Cup titles in 2024 and 2025.
Additionally, he joins Nick Paul, Brandon Duhaime, Darren Raddysh, Teddy Blueger, Jack Roslovic, and first overall selection Gavin McKenna as part of the offseason haul the Maple Leafs have brought aboard.
Colton Sissons Has Played In Over 750 Career NHL Games
A native of North Vancouver, Sissons was originally selected by the Predators in the second round (50th overall pick) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
He’d eventually make his debut with the Predators in 2013-14, scoring a goal and adding three assists in 17 games played before becoming a regular in their lineup.
Sissons was traded last summer to the Golden Knights with Jeremy Lauzon in exchange for defenseman Nicolas Hague and a conditional 2027 third-round draft pick.
In 756 career NHL games with the Predators and Golden Knights, Sissons has scored 101 goals with 131 assists for 232 points. He’s also contributed 12 goals and 21 assists in 93 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
He’s twice appeared in the Stanley Cup Final, first with Nashville in 2017 and then with Vegas earlier this spring.
