Real Madrid ended the uncertainty surrounding Vinicius Junior with a commitment designed to keep the Brazilian star at the Santiago Bernabeu through the heart of his career.
The club announced Thursday that Vinicius agreed to an extension through June 30, 2032.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano first reported the six-year agreement, adding that club president Florentino Perez continued to view the winger as a key piece of the project and manager Jose Mourinho became heavily involved in the process.

Madrid made the deal official shortly afterward, ending a contract saga that had created an opening for Arsenal to pursue one of the sport’s most dangerous attackers. Reuters reported that Vinicius had been linked with a move to the reigning Premier League champions as he entered the final year of his previous agreement.
The extension takes Vinicius from a possible exit in 2027 to a deal that could keep him in Madrid until he is 32. It also gives Mourinho clarity around a player he pushed to retain before the start of the La Liga season.

Vinicius entered the final year of his previous contract, which was scheduled to expire in June 2027. Madrid and his representatives spent months working through financial differences before finding common ground this week.

Mourinho’s involvement gave the talks another important voice. Romano reported that the manager played a significant role, while Perez remained committed to keeping Vinicius at the center of Madrid’s plans.

New Contract Ends Gunners’ Push for Vinicius
The Gunners’ interest added urgency to the negotiations.
Heavy reported Wednesday that the reigning Premier League champions were optimistic about landing Vinicius if his Madrid talks failed.
Mikel Arteta had pushed the pursuit, and the London club was prepared to meet the winger’s salary demands, according to David Ornstein’s report detailed by Heavy.
AS reported that the Gunners could have approached €30 million net per season and considered a transfer worth roughly €150 million. That possibility disappeared once Vinicius accepted Madrid’s revised offer.
The club’s official announcement emphasized the body of work behind the decision. Vinicius has recorded 128 goals in 375 appearances since arriving as an 18-year-old in 2018. He has won 14 trophies, including two Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns and three Club World Cups.
He also scored in Madrid’s Champions League final victories in 2022 and 2024 and won FIFA’s The Best men’s player award in 2024.
The new contract keeps that firepower in Madrid and removes one of the summer’s biggest potential transfers from the board.
Mourinho now enters the season with Vinicius committed through 2032, while the Gunners must turn elsewhere for a headline addition on the left wing.
