Wednesday’s WTA quarterfinal action will see former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek collide with American standout Amanda Anisimova on Arthur Ashe.
Throughout the US Open, both Swiatek and Anisimova have looked incredibly dominant so far.
In the case of Swiatek, the six-time Grand Slam winner has dropped just one set so far in Flushing Meadows, while dolling out breadstick sets in three of her four previous matches.
On the flip side, Anisimova has looked equally as dominant, most recently beating Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets while facing just three break points all match.
After an impressive Wimbledon run earlier this summer, Anisimova will be looking to keep the momentum rolling in hopes of ending the 2025 season with a Grand Slam.
Anisimova vs. Swiatek H2H
Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek have faced off just once throughout their careers, with Swiatek leading the head-to-head 1-0.
The two met on court for the first time earlier this summer in the Wimbledon final, where Swiatek picked up an incredibly dominant 6-0, 6-0 win to claim her maiden title at SW19.
As Anisimova explained post-match, she felt fatigued during her warm-up following a semifinal win over Aryna Sabalenka, and wound up needing to take breaks to catch her breath.
During her post-match press conference, she explained:
I think that I was just really fatigued, and I could feel it also in my warm-up this morning. I had to take a break after every single rally out there in my warm up.
“So I think, if anything, it’s my physicality that I need to work on, and to be able to last two weeks in a grand slam is definitely something that you need to work a lot on. It’s not an easy feat. So, there’s a lot of areas for improvement, I think. I think it’s more experience for me on how to handle nerves, and it’s my first slam final. At least I have that experience now.”
After gaining valuable experience in a Grand Slam final at SW19, Anisimova will be heading into Wednesday’s quarterfinal eager to avenge the July loss.
