Jorge Masvidal recently said Anthony Joshua has a chance to become a folklore hero if he defeats Jake Paul. The former UFC star believes Joshua could deliver a spectacular knockout that would help propel his career to even greater heights.
Paul vs. Joshua came together after the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s original matchup with Gervonta Davis was scrapped. ‘The Problem Child’ decided to think outside the box and pursued a bout with the former heavyweight champion. This is a significant step up in competition, as Joshua is among the sport’s top heavyweights.
Joshua will be likely be a heavy favorite by the time the fight takes place. He has proven knockout power and has earned knockout wins over the likes of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
Last year, Paul defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. That fight angered many combat sports fans, especially boxing fans, because of Tyson’s age and legendary status.
Masvidal believes that Joshua could make a lot of combat sports fans happy by avenging Tyson with a brutal knockout.
“If ‘AJ’ goes out there and executes Jake Paul in under a minute, this won’t add anything or take anything away from ‘AJ’ legacy,” Masvidal said during an interview with Thunderpick. “Everybody wants to see Jake get whooped like that, especially for what he did to Mike Tyson. [Joshua’s] gonna be a folklore hero. It’s definitely gonna add to the folklore of ‘AJ’, for generations to come.”

Jorge Masvidal also claimed that Jake Paul is significantly outmatched by Anthony Joshua and believes the difference will be obvious. Despite the clear disparity in their skill set, ‘Gamebred’ revealed that Paul does have a narrow path to victory.
Speaking with Thunderpick, Masvidal said Paul’s only hope depends on whether Joshua takes his training seriously. If ‘AJ’ isn’t showing the same dedication he brought to his previous fights, Masvidal believes Paul could pull of an upset.
Even if Joshua were to overlook Paul, the former BMF title holder believes the task would still be enormous.
“[Paul] could always land the shot. ‘AJ’ could not be taking him seriously whatsoever, not training, not doing anything, partying harder than ever. And then go out there and maybe [expletive] the bed,” Masvidal said. “Maybe it wasn’t the best circumstances for him, but who knows if he’d ever get another shot at something this grand, so I commend him. I take my hat off to him. You’re gonna get in there with [expletive] ‘AJ.’ God be with you.”
Masvidal Predicts Joshua Will Be Too Much for Paul
Masvidal also praised Paul for going through with his fight with Joshua. But believes the result is a foregone conclusion.
Paul doesn’t have the resume or skill level that Joshua possesses. ‘AJ’ has faced a who’s who of elite heavyweight boxers, while ‘The Problem Child’ has primarily faced former UFC fighters in boxing matches.
“Anthony Joshua’s a monster and Jake wouldn’t even serve as a sparring partner for him. But we’re about to find out what happens. I don’t know what’s going on,” Masvidal told Thunderpick. “‘AJ’ made Francis Ngannou look like nothing, like he was a novice, so what should ‘AJ; do to [Paul]? The math is pretty simple.
