Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark gets compared to former NBA player Jeremy Lin.

Coming off a historic run in college, Caitlin Clark faced lofty expectations upon being drafted No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft. Though she’s been able to help bring the league into the mainstream, the star guard was compared to one of the NBA’s top phenomenas in recent history.

During the May 12th edition of ‘The Craig Carton Show,’ Tyrone Johnson gave his thoughts on the Indiana Fever star. Through the opening weeks of her third season, he feels her stock has plummeted. Johnson thinks she’s no longer the face of the league and stated her rookie campaign was a flash in the pan like Jeremy Lin’s iconic “Linsanity” run.

“The Caitlin Clark thing is over, because she is not the best player in the WNBA,” Johnson said. “We’re not gonna look back on her like she’s Michael Jordan, she’s Jeremy Lin. This is just Linsanity, she’s gonna fumble this.”

Lin famously put together a string of impressive showings with the New York Knicks in 2012, but his time at the top quickly came and went. He made the most of the spotlight, managing to hang around the NBA for nine years. However, Lin was best utilized as a bench piece for the remainder of his career.

Caitlin Clark is Still Setting New WNBA Records

After missing most of the 2025 season due to injury, Clark is eager to return to form for the Fever in year three. She started off the 2026 campaign in impressive fashion, once again etching her name in the history books.

Indiana kicked off the regular season with a nail-biting matchup against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. Clark filled the stat sheet in this matchup, finishing with 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. It wasn’t enough to get the Fever in the win column, but it did help her reach a historic feat.

With his performance, Clark reached 1,000 points, 250 rebounds, and 250 assists for her career. She is now the fastest player to reach these milestones, doing so in just 54 games. Clark surpassed WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, who held the previous record at 62 games.

Former NBA Player Questions Caitlin Clark Hype

Clark’s absence throughout last season seems to have impacted her standing across the basketball world, as Johnson isn’t the only one speaking on her decline in popularity. One former NBA player is also starting to wonder if people are already starting to move on from the All-Star point guard.

Years removed from his playing days, Brandon Jennings has transitioned into a career as an analyst. He can regularly be found on the ‘Gil’s Arena Show,’ where he gives his insights alongside fellow ex-player Gilbert Arenas.

When not on the show, Jennings shares his opinions on social media. He recently took to X/Twitter regarding Clark, posing the question if the buzz around here is still at the level it used to be.

“Is the Caitlin Clark hype over with or something???,” Jennings wrote on X.

Still in the early stages of her career, Clark has a long runway to remind the basketball world why she was one of the most touted prospects in women’s basketball history.
