Del Castillo entered Sunday's game as a pinch hitter and hit a two-run home run in an 8-4 loss to the Cubs. Although Del Castillo homered for the second time in four games, his bat has been largely silent the last two weeks. He entered Sunday on a 3-for-29 (.103) run over the previous eight games. Del Castillo's offense was the main factor in him landing a spot on the 26-man roster, and if he continues to roll along with a .222 average and .671 OPS, playing time could diminish. The club envisioned him being a DH with the possibility of playing some first base, but that was before both Ildemaro Vargas (1.063 OPS in 107 plate appearances) and Jose Fernandez (.775 in 97 PAs) became more reliable sources of offense.

Adrian Del Castillo: Breaking News
Looks set to lose playing time
Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs. Del Castillo finds himself on the bench for the second straight day while the Diamondbacks face another lefty starter (Matthew Boyd), and the 26-year-old catcher/designated hitter could soon find a more difficult path to playing time against righties. Gabriel Moreno returned from the injured list Friday and should serve as the Diamondbacks' primary catcher moving forward, and Jose Fernandez (.793 OPS in 93 plate appearances this season) has likely performed well enough to hold off Del Castillo (.601 OPS in 65 plate appearances) for regular reps at DH.
Hits second homer
Del Castillo went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Brewers. Del Castillo's blast got the Diamondback on the board in the fourth inning. The catcher had gone 0-for-7 with two walks and three strikeouts over his last three games. Overall, he's batting just .222 with a .652 OPS, two homers, 11 RBI, six runs scored, three doubles and no stolen bases over 57 plate appearances. He's shared the catching duties with James McCann lately, but Del Castillo is likely to see a drop in playing time once Gabriel Moreno (oblique) returns, which is expected to happen during Arizona's series versus the Cubs this weekend.
