Corbin Burnes: Everything you need to know

Burnes (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Burnes threw a second bullpen session and mixed in curveballs after tossing 15 pitches (all fastballs) last Friday. The plan going forward calls for the right-hander to pitch again this coming Friday then two sessions per week for the next month. Burnes will incorporate all his pitches in those twice-weekly sessions. He estimated to be throwing at about an 80 to 85 percent effort level.

It was an encouraging sign for Barnes, with Friday's bullpen session being his first since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. All 15 of his pitches were fastballs or sinkers, and he reached a top velocity of 91 mph. Barnes' current plan is to toss two bullpen sessions a week, and the 31-year-old right-hander is aiming to make his 2026 debut around the All-Star break in July.

The Diamondbacks placed Burnes (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Sunday. The move was merely procedural, as Burnes is targeting a season debut around the All-Star break while he completes his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Zac Gallen, who re-signed with Arizona on a one-year deal.
