John McMillon: Everything you need to know

The Phillies released McMillon on Monday. McMillon has really struggled this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, collecting a 7.71 ERA and 8:11 K:BB over 9.1 innings. The 28-year-old reliever hasn't pitched at the major-league level since 2024, when he appeared in 10 games with the Marlins.

McMillon cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The Phillies claimed McMillon off waivers from the Marlins earlier this month, but he'll lose his 40-man roster spot again with Philadelphia protecting some prospects from the Rule 5 draft. McMillon's career has been greatly affected by arm injuries, and he averaged 95.3 mph with his fastball in 2024 after he sat at 99 mph with the pitch in 2023.

The Phillies claimed McMillon (elbow) off waivers from the Marlins on Monday. McMillon ended the 2024 season on the injured list with an elbow injury and it's not clear what his current health status is, but the Phillies felt he was worth a roll of the dice. The right-handed reliever holds a 1.69 ERA and 21:5 K:BB over 16 innings during parts of two seasons at the major-league level.
