Wagner (oblique) has been participating in extended spring-training games at the Padres' complex in Arizona, per MLB.com. Wagner suffered a strained right oblique in early March after appearing in just five Cactus League contests. He seems to be showing improvement but hasn't yet set out on a rehab assignment. It's unclear if there will be room for Wagner on the big-league roster when he's back to full health.
The Padres placed Wagner (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Wagner will officially begin the regular season on the injured list due to the oblique strain he suffered toward the beginning of March. It's unknown how far away he is from returning, and when he does, there's a good chance he'll be sent down to Triple-A El Paso.
Wagner is dealing with an oblique strain and hasn't done any baseball activity since the beginning of March, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Per Acee, Wagner will "almost certainly" start the season on the injured list. The infielder had been slated to battle for a reserve role during spring training, but he got into only five games before getting hurt, going 0-for-9 with two walks and two strikeouts. Even if Wagner was healthy, his likelihood of making the Opening Day roster had been considered slim.
