Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson will lead the No. 5 Irish into No. 2 Florida State Saturday night. Here’s what you need to know about Notre Dame’s signal-caller.

Since taking over the reigns, Golson has dominated at quarterback for Notre Dame, posting a 16-1 record through his career, with his only loss coming at the hands of Alabama in the 2013 National Championship game. But in the regular season, Golson is undefeated, and was a key part to the Irish’s run to the national championship game as a freshman two seasons ago.

2. He Missed Last Season Due to Academic Fraud

Golson was dismissed from the school in May of 2013 for an ‘academic violation.’ Golson later said he cheated on a test.

“I had poor judgment on a test,” Golson told SI’s Andy Staples in a video. “It wasn’t due to poor grades or anything like that.”

“Did you cheat on a test?” Staples asked.

“Yeah, something like that,” Golson responds.

Golson was readmitted to the school after the 2013 Fall Semester.

3. He Is Already In the School Record Books

As a freshman, Golson was the main surprise for an Irish team that began the season nowhere near national championship consideration and ended up in the title game.

Over the course of that season, Golson set his place in the Top 10 of 19 school records, including having the lowest career interception percentage (1.89/game).

4. He Was One of the Best High School Quarterbacks Ever

While playing at Myrtle Beach High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Golson was one of the best high school quarterbacks ever. In addition to posting a 44-5 career record, he is sixth all-time in national high school history with 151 career touchdown passes. In addition to several media honors, he was a finalist for Mr. Football of South Carolina in 2010.

5. His Girlfriend Goes to USC

Golson’s girlfriend goes to USC, Notre Dame’s biggest rival. The Irish and Trojans face this season in Los Angeles November 29.

After Golson was dismissed from Notre Dame, he was on USC’s campus, supposedly to visit his girlfriend, but it caused a stir on Twitter, as fans started to believe Golson might be transferring to the school.
