Final Score

Manchester United 1-0 — 1
Arsenal
0-1 — 1

Manchester United and Arsenal battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford. The hosts had most of the chances, but Theo Walcott rescued a point for the Gunners as his cross was deflected past reserve goalie Victor Valdes in the 82nd minute.

Arsenal didn’t have a shot towards goal in the entire first half for the first time in 11 years. The first shot finally came in the 63rd minute, but Manchester United’s defense was not under pressure for much of the game.

In perhaps his last match at Old Trafford, starting goalie David De Gea exited the game with an injury in the second half.

Here are the highlights.

Phil Jones Used Head To Prevent Breakaway

Arsenal had the first chance of the game, but Phil Jones made an unusual clearance to prevent the chance.

Ander Herrera Scored For Manchester United In 30th Minute

Ashley Young continued his form with a pinpoint cross to Herrera, who beat Arsenal goalie David Ospina with a calm finish.

Theo Walcott Equalizes In The 82nd Minute

Arsenal offered little in terms of attacking threat for the most, but a goal out of nothing for the Gunners as Walcott’s cross is deflected in by Tyler Blackett.

Preview: Manchester United hosts Arsenal at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Arsenal is usually one of the biggest fixtures of the English Premier League season, but it has a bit of an anti-climatic feel this term as they sit in third and fourth places respectively. While both can move up in the standings, and Manchester United could get out of the Champions League qualifying round with a win and help, it is unlikely any movement will take place in the final rounds of the season.

Both sides have had long stretches of positive form to vault up the table that have largely subsided over the past several weeks.

Arsenal won the last meeting between the two sides, a 2-1 win in the FA Cup as part of their run to the final. Arsenal meets Aston Villa May 30 after the Premier League season ends. Manchester United had been unbeaten in the previous seven matches (five wins, two draws) between the teams.
