Two underdogs clash in the Copa America quarterfinals on Thursday as Bolivia and Peru will meet for a rare spot in the final four. While Peru has had moderate success in the tournament, including reaching the semifinals in 2011, Bolivia is looking for its first semifinal spot since 1997.
Peru was on course to snagging a point from Brazil in the tournament opener, but yielded a goal in the final minute to lose 2-1. Since then, Peru posted back-to-back clean sheets in beating Venezuela and drawing with Colombia to advance to the quarterfinals. Bolivia reached the quarterfinals by defeating Ecuador 3-2 and drawing 0-0 with Mexico before being thrashed 5-0 by host Chile.
Peru is led by 36-year-old forward Claudio Pizzaro, who scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Venezuela. Pizzaro is confident his team can make a deep run and surprise a few teams along the way.
