A poor start to the season led to a managerial change and Newcastle United finished 15th in the English Premier League in 2014-2015. Even though Newcastle United looked for a change in 2014-2015, Newcastle did beat Tottenham, Liverpool, and Chelsea last season. The positives for Newcastle, though, were almost done in by the negatives, as the Tooners finished 1-1-8 in their last 10 games of the season. Newcastle United did not have any major losses from their 2014-2015 squad, but added Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Chancel Mbemba in big money moves. Mitrovic and Mbemba are both 20 and Wijnaldum is 24, showing that the future is bright for the Toon Army.

Newcastle United opens the season with four teams that finished in the top-eight of the 2014-2015 table and also play Chelsea and travel to Manchester City within their first 10 games of the season. The schedule makers did no favors at the end of the fixture list as well, with Newcastle playing Liverpool and Crystal Palace before capping the season with a trip to Aston Villa and a home match with Tottenham.
