The Premier League season is off and running, and the first Super Sunday of the 2015/16 campaign will feature a matchup between Stoke City and Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium.
The last time the two teams met, Stoke ran wild in a 6-1 win over the Reds in what was Steven Gerrard’s last match for the club. Defender Martin Skrtel called the match embarrassing and says the team is ready to make amends for the poor performance.
Stoke manager Mark Hughes has seamlessly taken over from Tony Pulis, and led the team to its second straight ninth-place finish. Known for their defensive toughness, Stoke will have to cope with the loss of goalie Asmir Begovic (Chelsea) and defensive midfielder Steven N’zonzi (Sevilla) to big spending clubs. Remarkably Stoke’s record transfer fee is just $15.5 million, when Peter Crouch joined the club from Tottenham in 2011.
