It was an unbelievable performance from the unranked Italian, and yet her post-match interview might have been just as impressive. She was honest, charming, funny and absolutely full of emotion. Here a couple of the best moments, but you can watch the entire interview in all of its glory above:
Interviewees are so often stale with their answers, especially when they have to be interviewed just moments after a match or game. Yet Vinci, who was caught up in understandable emotion just seconds before she had to talk with Tom Rinaldi, was the opposite of stale.
The American fans were undoubtedly disappointed to see Serena come up short of history, but Vinci certainly won over a lot of those same fans by simply being herself.
You can bet she’ll be the new fan favorite on Saturday when she takes on compatriot Flavia Pennetta for the title at Flushing Meadows.
