WATCH: Jake Arrieta Helps Himself With Solo Home Run

You’ve heard about how great Jake Arrieta has been pitching for the past couple of years. But he’s also willing to help himself out if need be. In the top of the 5th inning against the Cincinnati Reds, with a 7-3 lead, Arrieta hit an impressive opposite field home run to right to pad the lead to 8-3.

It’s his second home run of the year. Arrieta has actually had himself quite an offensive season for a pitcher, hitting at a .258 clip. He also hit 2 home runs last year, establishing himself as yet another power bat for the Cubs’ talented lineup.

The game is, at this writing, still 8-3. Kris Bryant has 2 home runs and 5 RBIs on the night, while Jason Heyward and Miguel Montero have added RBIs of their own. This page will be updated with official MLB video once it is released.
