As was the case last season, one of the bigger storylines will be Jose Mourinho taking on his old squad. Though United and Mourinho struggled against Chelsea last year, going 1-2 with a 4-0 EPL loss in October, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte isn’t buying the “revenge” narrative.

“Every coach, every player, every team wants to win. Not for revenge, but because you need to win,” he said.

In fact, considering United is 10-1-1 in its last 12 fixtures across all competition while Chelsea is fresh off a mid-week 3-0 Champions League loss to Roma, the Blues–who sit four points behind United and nine behind Man City–may face much more pressure to put forth a quality performance on Sunday.

“This is my task: to try to understand why we lost, and then to find the right solution to try and improve, to avoid other situations like this,” said Conte. “The most important thing is that it is an isolated case.”

In the last meeting between these two sides, Manchester United earned the 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in April, as Marcus Rashford grabbed an early goal and Ander Herrera doubled the lead shortly after halftime. Of course, the three matches at Old Trafford before that one all resulted in draws, with two of those being of the 0-0 variety. With each squad boasting dangerous attacking ability, you can likely expect both to play somewhat conservatively at the back and not risk getting caught with too many men forward. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising if it took just one goal to secure three points on Sunday.

Ultimately, though, whether they play conservatively or not, this is undoubtedly a must-watch match.
