Since taking over as the head football coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kalen DeBoer has been facing a very difficult task.
Trying to fill the shoes of a coaching legend like Nick Saban is not an easy job. DeBoer was able to lead the Crimson Tide back to the College Football Playoff last season and even picked up a road win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the opening round.
Unfortunately, Alabama saw its season come to an end at the hands of the eventual champion Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl.
DeBoer has his work cut out for him to get back to the National Championship. Those hopes will start with landing elite talent in the transfer portal and by dominating with high school recruiting.
With that in mind, the Crimson Tide have been aggressively pursuing an elite quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. They have received a concerning update regarding that pursuit.
Alabama, Kalen DeBoer Get Concerning Elijah Haven Update
For quite some time, Alabama has been viewed as the favorite to land a commitment from five-star 2027 quarterback prospect Elijah Haven.
Hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Haven is currently the No. 1 ranked quarterback in the 2027 class by 247 Sports. He is also ranked the No. 2 overall player in the nation.
While 247 Sports still has the Crimson Tide at a 100 percent chance to earn Haven’s commitment, an update has provided a potentially dangerous outlook for Alabama.
Rivals shared a video of Adam Gorney taking a look at Haven’s recruiting situation. Gorney name-dropped some teams who could end up stealing Haven away from the Crimson Tide.
“He was supposed to be off the board months ago, and you know I’m sure Alabama wanted to close that one out, but he keeps pushing that back,” Gorney said. “Alabama still looks very, very strong, but I don’t count out Auburn, Florida and Georgia.”
Taking a Closer Look at Alabama’s Next Two Recruiting Classes
DeBoer has been working very hard on the recruiting trail. Fans have to look no further than the 2026 recruiting class to see that fact.
According to 247 Sports, Alabama has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country in 2026. That class will feature players like pass rusher Xavier Griffin, running back Ezavier Crowell, cornerback Jorden Edmonds, and quarterback Jett Thomalla.
So far in the 2027 class rankings, the Crimson Tide are ranked No. 16.They have landed commitments from four-star prospects like edge rusher Jabarrius Garror and quarterback Trent Seaborn, while also having two three-star commits in ATH Colt Lumpris and cornerback Nash Johnson III.
In order to push Alabama back into national championship contention, DeBoer needs to continue piling up talent. Landing Haven would be a big step in that direction.
While it sounds like the Crimson Tide still have a good chance of landing Haven’s commitment, the deal is not done yet and DeBoer has more work ahead of him.
