The Alabama Crimson Tide and Kalen DeBoer had a rollercoaster of a 2025 college football season.
After losing to Florida State in the season opener, Alabama was able to right the ship and work its way into the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide went on the road to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners in the first game of the playoff, but then ran into the Indiana Hoosiers and were eliminated by a final score of 38-3.
Now that the season has come to an end, Alabama has seen starting quarterback Ty Simpson enter the 2026 NFL Draft. That leaves the Crimson Tide with quarterbacks Austin Mack and Keelon Russell as their two options for 2026.
While both players have elite talent, there is a five-star quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class to keep a close eye on.
Alabama is trending towards landing Elijah Haven in the 2027 class. He is currently ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the class and the No. 2 overall player in the nation by 247 Sports.
As of right now, 247 Sports has a crystal ball prediction for Haven to commit to the Crimson Tide.
Who Is Alabama Crimson Tide QB Target Elijah Haven?
Haven hails from Dunham School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He has already started receiving hype as a potential NFL quarterback down the road.
Andrew Ivins, the Director of Scouting for 247 Sports, has made it clear that he thinks professional football could be in Haven’s future if he reaches his ceiling.
“Must cut down on the mental lapses and keep progressing as a passer, but has the tools to emerge as a force multiplier on Saturdays and then potentially Sundays,” Ivins wrote.
In addition, Ivins did come up with an interesting comparison for Haven. He believes that the young quarterback is similar to current Arizona Cardinals signal caller Jacoby Brissett.
For the 2025 season in high school, Haven received the Gatorade Player of the Year in Louisiana. He stands in at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, which is ideal size for an SEC quarterback.
Kalen DeBoer Would Have No Shortage of Quarterback Options
Both Mack and Russell are starting caliber quarterbacks. They will compete against each other before the 2026 season for the starting job.
Should DeBoer be able to land a commitment from Haven, he would have three elite young signal callers. That would be a good problem to have, although the transfer portal would likely allow one of them to leave the program for a better chance to play in 2027.
Since taking over the Alabama head coaching job after Nick Saban retired, DeBoer has received a ton of heat. Fans have blamed any shortcoming on him and are expecting excellence.
In his first two years as the team’s head coach, DeBoer has led the Crimson Tide to a 20-8 record. Making sure that the quarterback position is stacked will be the most important step to turning Alabama back into a national championship contender.
Haven has elite potential. No young player is a guarantee, but being able to land the five-star quarterback would be a nice step in the right direction for DeBoer and company.
