At one point during the 2025 college football season, Simpson was a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. His production fell off late in the year, but he’s still widely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 draft.
Following Alabama’s Rose Bowl loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, all eyes were on Simpson regarding his decision about the NFL Draft. Would he choose to come back for one more season of college football experience or make the jump? He opted to head off to the professional ranks.
Now, the question becomes, how high will Simpson be drafted and which team will decide to take a chance on him as a future franchise quarterback?
NFL Teams Given Clear Warning About Alabama’s Ty Simpson
With the 2026 NFL Draft just over two months away, teams have received a new warning about Simpson’s future.
Bleacher Report analyst Brad Gagnon has delivered a strong warning about Simpson. He sees a potential future where Simpson doesn’t even develop into being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
“If he’s drafted into the right offense, he could eventually become a good-not-great starter. I’m still betting we’ve written him off as a career backup by 2028,” Gagnon wrote.
Needless to say, that isn’t the kind of press that the Crimson Tide standout wants to see ahead of the draft. However, there are concerns about his lack of college experience.
At the end of the day, Simpson has only been a starting quarterback for one full season. He played well for Alabama, but anyone investing a first-round pick into him could be taking a major risk.
Simpson has a lot of work to do before the draft arrives. He’ll need to perform well in on-field activities and will also need to interview well. It’s still expected that he’ll be a first-round pick, but these kinds of warnings bring up concerns for NFL teams.
What Does Ty Simpson Bring With Him Into the NFL?
Throughout the course of the 2025 season with the Crimson Tide, Simpson completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
During his four total college seasons at Alabama, Simpson threw for 3,948 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. There is very little difference between his 2025 campaign and the previous three years, showing just how little he played earlier in his career.
It is going to be very interesting to see what Simpson’s NFL future has in store for him. There is no denying the talent and potential that he possesses, but there is still a legitimate chance that he could be a dud at the professional level.
Only time will tell, but Simpson will be one of the most talked about names in the draft over the next couple of months.
