Regardless of where you stand on the job that Kalen DeBoer has done in his first two seasons as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, there is no denying his ability to recruit at an elite level.
Since arriving in Tuscaloosa, DeBoer and his coaching staff have continued to stack momentum within the high school ranks, targeting and landing some of the nation’s elite talent. That trend appears to be continuing in the recruitment of five-star quarterback Elijah Haven.
According to Andrew Bone of BamaOnline, Alabama is currently setting the pace for Haven, who is widely regarded as the No. 1 quarterback in the country for the class of 2027.
Alabama Continues to Set the Standard
Haven has not rushed his recruitment in the least, taking his time to consider all options carefully. The standout from Dunham High School has taken a measured approach, allowing programs from around the country to make their case.
According to Bone’s report, Haven’s recruiting process has somewhat slowed down due to his success in other sports. After leading his team to a state championship on the football field, Haven transitioned into basketball season, making a deep postseason run that limited his travel opportunities.
Despite other programs’ best efforts, Alabama continues to set the standard for Haven. Especially after he got a glimpse of the atmosphere while visiting for Alabama’s rivalry matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Haven Had Elite Production in 2025
Haven’s on-field performance leaves little doubt about why he’s considered the top quarterback in the country.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound gunslinger is coming off a dominant junior season in which he threw for nearly 4,000 yards and a state-record 62 touchdowns while completing over 73 percent of his passes. He added nearly 800 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground, further showcasing his dual-threat ability.
His performance earned him Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors and an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals, one of the premier quarterback showcases in the nation.
Haven Set to Visit Alabama on A-Day
Bone has also reported that Haven is expected to visit Tuscaloosa again for A-Day weekend in April, giving the Crimson Tide staff another opportunity to build on its relationship.
Even with Alabama currently holding the lead for Haven, the job is not finished for Coach DeBoer and his staff, as a decision is expected sometime in late April for the elite quarterback from Baton Rouge.
