The 2026 NFL Draft is still a few months away, but Alabama Crimson Tide standout quarterback Ty Simpson has already become a hot topic of conversation leading up to it.
Simpson is coming off of a big-time year in his first full season as the starter for Alabama. At one point during the year, he was considered to be a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. Unfortunately, his production calmed down late in the year and he fell out of contention for the coveted award.
After the Crimson Tide got blown out by the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl, all eyes turned to Simpson’s decision about his future. Would he return for one more year of college of throw his name into the NFL Draft? He chose to pursue his dream of playing professional football.
Shortly after making that decision, reports came out that teams were trying to convince him to return to college. It was even reported that he was being offered $6.5 million to return for the 2026 season.
With that being said, Simpson remained in NFL Draft and will be an option for franchises at the quarterback position.
Alabama’s Ty Simpson Slapped With Red Flag Warning
Michael Nania of Jets X-Factor has shared his biggest concern about Simpson moving to the NFL level. He doesn’t know if Simpson has the needed experience or not.
“The most significant concern, though, might be Simpson’s lack of starting experience,” Nania wrote. “Simpson sat on the bench for his first three years at Alabama. He started all 15 games in 2025, and those are the only 15 starts he will take with him to the NFL. This is a terrifying sign.”
He makes a great point. Young quarterbacks who don’t have a lot of college football experience can struggle at the NFL level.
During his college career at Alabama, Simpson barely played in his first three seasons. However, in 2025, he completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just five interceptions.
There are reasons to be concerned about his lack of college experience. However, the talent that he possesses is clear and will lead to an NFL team taking a chance on him.
Which NFL Teams Could Make Sense for Ty Simpson?
On the outside looking in, there are a few NFL teams who appear to make perfect sense for Simpson.
Most notably, the Pittsburgh Steelers have already been heavily connected to the Crimson Tide star. With Aaron Rodgers’ future completely unclear, the AFC North powerhouse could consider bringing Simpson onboard to compete with Will Howard.
Other teams to watch include the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams. The Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns could also be potential fits.
Simpson has plenty of potential NFL destinations. It will be interesting to see how his NFL career goes and there are red flags for teams to be wary of, but Simpson is a hard worker with tons of talent and will have a legitimate shot at being a first-round pick.
