Michigan head coach Sherrone Moores is being investigated by the NCAA.

On Wednesday afternoon, news broke that the University of Michigan would be firing head coach Sherrone Moore, effective immediately. The initial report, although abrupt, did not indicate any criminal wrongdoing.

Following the announcement, the university revealed that Moore’s firing was “for cause.”

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” a statement from Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel read. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

The initial statement surfaced around 4 PM EST on Wednesday afternoon.

Hours later, reports from Saline, Michigan, indicated that the now-fired coach had been detained by local police officers.

Breaking: Ex-Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police in Saline, Mich. this evening and turned over to police in Pittsfield Township for investigation into potential charges,” ESPN’s Dan Wetzel wrote in an X post.

Wetzel included a report from an unnamed source in the post.

“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore,” the report read. “Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”

Graphic Details Of Moore’s Alleged Conduct

The Moore story got ugly fast as more details emerged last night of his alleged conduct before being taken into custody.

While nothing has been confirmed, the current story circulating says that Moore was allegedly arrested after threatening assault on the same university staffer.

“The Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 10, that officers responded to a call on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. for an alleged assault investigation,” wrote Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press.

Moore has not been arraigned yet as the investigation is still ongoing.

“The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today,” said the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office in a statement to NewsNation.
