College football fans are getting to know South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer’s wife Emily Beamer and family a little bit more. Shane’s wife drew notoriety in 2024 after the South Carolina coach and players serenaded Emily in the locker room after a big win with the song “When I See U” by Fantasia.
The spotlight has once again been on the Beamer family thanks to the Netflix docuseries “SEC Football: Any Given Saturday.” South Carolina is one of the teams featured on the show and several episodes provide an up-close look at Shane along with his wife and kids.
Following South Carolina’s significant victory over Texas A&M, head football coach Shane Beamer and his team celebrated by serenading his wife, Emily, with Fantasia’s “When I See U” in the locker room.

During the documentary, Emily revealed a candid conversation she had with Shane. The South Carolina coach told his wife that it is not if he gets fired as a college football coach, but when he will get fired in an attempt to prepare his family for all the uncertainty.
Through all the ups and downs of being a college football coach, Shane has leaned on his family.
Emily Beamer Has Received Some Backlash After the Netflix Series
After the postgame interview, he hugs his wife, then his dad, his daughter and his mom.
Emily has apparently received some backlash for one particular moment on the show. One episode showed Emily making cookies for the South Carolina team, and Shane’s wife has since received criticism for her baking style.
“I do have a statement to make,” Shane noted in an August 2025 press conference, per On3’s Thomas Goldkamp. “I think my wife is getting some undue criticism on the cookies she makes. That’s in episode 5, I believe. She’s actually had people that have reached out to her on Netflix telling her that she’s not cooking the cookies long enough.”
“Much respect for the people that took the time to reach out to her to criticize her for her cookies, but the cookies are the freaking bomb, just so you guys know. I’ve got my girl’s back. She’s been making those cookies when I was an assistant coach. She’s been making those cookies for my position group that I coached, so the running backs at Virginia Tech, or the tight ends at Georgia, or the tight ends at Oklahoma.”
Shane Beamer’s Dad Is Legendary Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer
The Beamer family has some interesting decisions to make to start the college football season. Shane’s dad is longtime Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer.
It just so happens that South Carolina opens the college football season against Virginia Tech in Atlanta. The former Hokies coach was also shown in the Netflix documentary decked out in South Carolina gear cheering on his son’s team. Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry thinks Frank will be rooting for South Carolina over the Hokies in the season opener despite his lengthy tenure in Blacksburg.
“You know, obviously, he loves his son first,” Pry noted in July, per SB Nation. “He loves Virginia Tech an awful lot, but he loves his son first.
“I think if you asked Frank’s wife, she’d be like, ‘My son is where it’s at, are you kidding me?’”
