Aaron Rai is a PGA Tour golfer who surged near the top of the leaderboard during the 2026 PGA Championship while continuing to build one of golf’s most unique careers alongside his wife, fellow pro golfer Gaurika Bishnoi. Here’s what you need to know.
1. Aaron Rai Is Known for His Unique Style on the Golf Course
Rai has become one of the more recognizable players on the PGA Tour thanks to a few unusual habits on the course.
The 31-year-old English golfer wears two black gloves while playing, something very few professional golfers do. He also uses head covers not only for his woods but also for his irons.
According to his official PGA profile, he was born March 3, 1995, in Wolverhampton, England. Rai turned professional in 2012 at just 17, rather than play college golf.
Before becoming a PGA Tour regular, he built his reputation on the DP World Tour, where he earned multiple victories.
Rai entered the final round of the 2026 PGA Championship tied for second place at 4-under par, chasing leader Alex Smalley at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia.
His lone PGA Tour victory came at the 2024 Wyndham Championship.
2. Gaurika Bishnoi Is Also a Professional Golfer
Bishnoi has built her own successful golf career on the Ladies European Tour and in India.
The 27-year-old golfer has recorded eight victories on India’s Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour.
American golf fans first became more familiar with Bishnoi during the 2025 Masters Par 3 Contest when she served as Rai’s caddie.
She even took a shot during the event that was later shared by the PGA Tour on social media.
The couple teamed up again during the 2026 Masters Par 3 Contest, where Rai shot 6-under par to win the event with Bishnoi once again carrying the bag.
Later that year, Rai returned the favor by serving as Bishnoi’s caddie during a Ladies European Tour event.
According to multiple reports, the couple married in London in July 2025.
3. Aaron Rai Says Marriage Has Changed His Life
Rai has spoken openly about how much Bishnoi has impacted both his personal life and his golf career.
Following his win at the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in November, Rai praised his wife while discussing their first year of marriage.
“It’s hard for me to really sum up how much of an effect she’s had on me as a person, and also that actually feeds into my golf,” Rai said, per The Mirror.
“This year has been truly special with us getting married, caddying for her, being with her, getting married, practicing and playing together,” he added.
“It’s just a peaceful thing to be able to share different parts of our lives with one another and being with each other every step of the way. Yeah, very special.”
The couple has frequently supported each other’s careers while traveling together during tournaments around the world.
4. Aaron Rai Has Quietly Built a Strong Major Championship Résumé
Although Rai does not yet have a major championship victory, he has steadily improved in golf’s biggest tournaments.
Entering the 2026 PGA Championship, Rai had made nine cuts in 12 career major starts.
His best major finish is a tie for 19th, which he has achieved three times across different tournaments.
One of his strongest performances came during the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, where he opened with a 67 and finished tied for 19th.
His approach play has become one of the strongest parts of his game. Rai ranked third in approach statistics during the 2025 PGA Championship and fifth during the 2025 Open Championship.
He also carried momentum into Aronimink after finishing fifth at the 2026 Myrtle Beach Classic.
5. Rai Continues Climbing the PGA Tour Leaderboards
Rai remained in contention throughout the 2026 PGA Championship after charging up the leaderboard during the third round.
He entered Sunday tied for second alongside Jon Rahm, Matti Schmid, Nick Taylor, and Ludvig Åberg.
Rai shot a third-round 67 to position himself within striking distance of the Wanamaker Trophy.
The English golfer also entered the tournament with growing confidence following a solid start to the 2026 PGA Tour season, including strong finishes at the Genesis Invitational, Cognizant Classic, Zurich Classic, and Myrtle Beach Classic.
